Artist Statement:
Hearing voices, feeling lost and anxious in the heat, and the brain’s electric signal. This piece is a combination of the visuospatial phenomena caused by epileptic “spells” and the electrical activity monitored through an EEG test. It portrays both using magazine clippings, paper, and steel wire, but goes further than previous work by using button studs and silicone cables. This piece opens the door to a new path in using materials other than traditional paper and prints.
Cultural Context / Story Behind the Work:
Illustrates Robin Muccari’s experiences with minor seizure "spells" caused by permanent brain damage since being assaulted in 2003.
