CAHH National Award for Excellence in the Health Humanities
Overview
The Canadian Association for Health Humanities (CAHH) National Award for Excellence in the Health Humanities recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the health humanities in Canada. The award celebrates scholarly and/or artistic innovation, educational and public leadership, and personal engagement with the humanities as a way of deepening understanding of the human experience in health and illness.
This award honours individuals whose work bridges disciplines—bringing humanities inquiry, creative practice, and reflection into education, scholarship, public discourse, and professional identity. It is intended to recognize contributions that have national impact through teaching, artistic production, scholarship, mentorship, and/or leadership in the health humanities community.
Eligibility
Nominees must be educators, scholars, artists, or practitioners actively engaged in the health humanities in Canada.
Nominees should demonstrate national engagement or reach in the medical and health humanities, such as through conference participation, publications, exhibitions, performances, and/or leadership roles.
Nominees must be members of the Canadian Association for Health Humanities.
Nomination Requirements
A complete nomination package includes:
1. Nomination Letter (maximum 2 pages)
Outlines the nominee’s contributions to the health humanities in Canada
Describes how the nominee integrates humanities principles into their personal and professional practice
Highlights national engagement and leadership in the humanities community (e.g., conference contributions, initiatives, collaborations)
2. Two (2) Additional Letters of Support (maximum 2 pages each)
Written by colleagues, learners, community partners, or collaborators who can speak to the nominee’s impact and influence
3. Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)
Includes scholarship, teaching, and leadership in the humanities and health professions
Artistic contributions may include a summary of major projects, exhibitions, performances, residencies, and other efforts that intersect with health humanities

All nominations must be received by February 28, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. AST.

Selection and Announcement
The selection committee will review all eligible nominations using the above selection criteria. The recipient will be recognized at CAHH’s national conference, Creating Space, and featured in any CAHH national communications and publications.
