CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal) Humanities is issuing its first-ever call for submissions. The theme is “From the Outside In.” We’re looking for your stories and reflections about working on the edges of things: perhaps you work in a remote location, or on the edge of your comfort zone, or you occupy a marginalized space in medicine – we want to hear your voice. Full submission instructions can be found here.
We will continue to read and publish unsolicited “Encounters” (narratives) and “Society & Medicine “ (analysis) submissions, but now, in order to show how the humanities can offer multiple voices and lenses on important issues in medicine, we will also put out periodic calls on particular topics.
In response to reader demand, we also plan to solicit poetry, book reviews and graphic medicine in the coming months. Our purpose is to demonstrate how examining stories, history, images and metaphors helps us make moral sense of the world, construct meaning from our experiences, and grapple with complexity and uncertainty – all of which are critical to the work of medical practitioners.
We look forward to bringing you new and exciting voices in CMAJ Humanities.
